This week, news–ahem–surfaced that Russian Mir submarines could stop the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico. The Russian sub team is offering their help to BP, but so far they haven’t got a request or even a formal sit-down with BP. NASA released dramatic satellite photos of the north branch of Greenland’s Jakobshavn glacier that show it retreated one mile overnight(!); Jim Bohlen, one of the co-founders of Greenpeace, died on Monday, a day after his 84th birthday; and an almost invisible tree house opens in Sweden.

London Festival of Architecture Covers the City and John Nash

The London Festival of Architecture 2010 is a huge two week extravaganza that spans the city. There is a big international element this year, with more than 30 embassies opening their doors to present new work by their country’s architects. Private architects’ studios will be open to the public, cycle tours, walks, talks and displays will keep city-lovers busy for days.
